Welcome

Talked to Onyx-Rose last night and told her she has 2 more  'followers'
 than i do at iznaabugg..
This tickled her ... i could tell by her giggle.
So .. because Blogger still won't let me answer on the comments i wanted to say
Welcome...
And Thank You for joining in on her story...
 There's more to come ..

The last couple months have been a bit tough for me sharing her story
i do not live near her at this time and miss her very much.
You see
 Never in my life
did i think we'd be so far apart
 as this...
i always expected she'd be close,
even living with us in her later years.
She did live with my Husband and i for a very short year
when she had Knee replacement surgery
 a few years ago...
we expected her to stay with us.
but things don't always go the way we hope they will ...
or think they should.

Being the Mother of 7
Onyx has many options of where to live.
At this time she is reveling in the love and friendship of 2 daughters
and her grandchildren in a small mountain town.
She is completely in Awe of these truly lovely,
Angelic beings.

i struggle with grief from not living closer to her
and the rest of the family
but ....

life is short
isn't it.

Big Bear & Rose

Onyx sent me this and a few other Pict's she had copied so i could resume with her story with some visual aid.
Thank You Sweet one!

We were talking about her childhood and she remembered a time she and her family had been given a gift of a stay at a special little cabin spot up in the Mountains of California, a place called Big Bear.
Her Mother had been working at Convair doing her Patriotic duty as Rosey the Riveter and a friend who was a Realtor decided the family needed a treat.
So they drove the wooded roads up into the grand mountains.
Onyx remembers the little town had a bowling alley, a cafe and  "a beautiful lake".

This picture is Not Big Bear lake but ... to get an idea .. Onyx was not shy about playing in the water.
Though i bet Big Bear is a whole lot colder!

She also recalled seeing many wild deer that seemed to be as curious about their arrival as the family was of the deer. None of them ran away, instead they stopped munching and stared right back til Mom and the folks went on up the road.
One morning she awoke at sunrise to the surprise of a rather nosey deer peering in the window at her as she lay in her bed.
She called out to her Mother in excitement and the deer remained right in the garden by that window for some time.
She says they returned to Big Bear several years after that and always felt refreshed & ready to take on the world.

watching over

i often look on-line to see the weather on the way to where Onyx-Rose lives.

For many years she and i traveled these Roads together. The I-5 corridor between the State of Jefferson; the True Northern California; up through the state of Oregon where we shared many adventures... road trips and just plane trips... not the drug induced kind... the kind where you fall into a Rabbit hole like Alice and wonder what land you've gotten yourself into.

Snowy, icy roads were my least favorite memories. Onyx taught me how to drive Stick shift in a '62 V.W. bug on the windy winter roads of the small Buckaroo town of Molalla. The roads to 'Dickey prairie' where we lived on the outskirts of town were nauseating and fraught with the ever present threat of sliding off into the river.

Rose was intrepid and exceedingly patient with me...she always showed confidence and never coddled me when my desire was to freak out and give up the wheel...even when both our hands were frozen and petrified by the arctic temperatures. She knew i could do it. In fact we both learned an important skill while negotiating hairpin curves heading down to town. The Bug was bottom heavy ... while we may have started the trip heading forward down-hill.. swoop, fwoop... & we were instantly heading backwards in a slippery slide.... ....slooop! schheerpslerp!

"i say old chap were We headed up the hill or down the hill???"

Needless to say ...we learned how to drive that little Buggy backwards in a Hurry! 'Cause there was No getting it turned around till we hit flat ground down the road a couple of miles... which seemed like Hundreds and Hundreds at those times. What an absolute rush THAT was and No Drugs needed! Those were the raw 'grit of your teeth' trips that forge the kind of friendship people need in order to weather the storms life flings at us.
i think my Sisters are now forming their own weather tight bonds with Onyx-Rose and each other as they travel these roads together between the two states... this has always been a hope of mine<3.
Even though she can no longer drive or see too well, Onyx... Mom.... can still inspire confidence and trust.. patience, in the journey mile by sometimes backward mile.. as she Watches over those she Loves so well.
Thank You for the life and driving lessons MOM... it's because of You that i knew i could learn to drive a Tractor trailer rig pulling a 53 foot trailer... forwards AND backwards  & do it well,
Even in the worst of weather.

Thanks for giving

                                      Thank You Onyx-Rose!

Thank You for giving Joy & Love to this tribe of individuals. Each one of us holds a part of you within our hearts. Wherever we go, whatever we do, there you are.

And Here You are with me right now. My thoughts return to all those days you went out  of your way to make celebration a part of our lives.

Thank You for feasts shared with family and friends:
For sharing Grandpa & Grandma D. whose gardens were full of Roses and fruit tree's. Grandpa's game of "break an egg on your head"...his  menu favorites Ambrosia salad & German chocolate cake! Grandma's Irish Jig; Man could she ever cut the rug!  & her Pot Roasts ...mm mm!

 Gettin' hungry?

Thank You for Uncle D. who brought fantastic game & fish to the table, Quail, Elk, Abalone, Swordfish, Javelina (meals were never ordinary), Piggy back rides & jungle gym... a soft round belly to lean up against while watching Roller derby or Wrestling;  good for hiding eyes when those roller "babes" got scary & mean..........
............................Did he put that fuzz in his belly button just to be funny?

Lost your appetite? (he,he)

Thank You for making sure we spent time with Dad and His side of the family too. You never kept us away from those important connections. While other families split by divorce were playing "Keep away" with the kids,  you were Making sure we had  time with All our relatives.
At Grandma R.'s little cottage We learned to love Goulash, and wonder why one tiny little lady would have all that Candy, overflowing candy dishes all over the house? It was a wonder we had an appetite for dinner after having candy dishes held out....   "Have some Candy sweetheart?" There was always a big spoon at the dinner table scooping out Goulash onto not quite empty plates, and that Lazy Susan going around in circles with a huge assortment of who knows what that 'needed' to find room on your overflowing plate!
.........................We were Love pounded with Food... squishy hugs & cheek pinches.

Thank You for driving us all the way out to the desert to be with Aunt & Uncle M. and all our cousins where we had so much fun we Were a Barrel of monkeys. We were so blessed that you and Dads Sister, Aunt M. stayed such good friends, that's the difference it makes when you share Jesus in common with others. That kind of Love is stronger than anything the world can give.

Thank You for giving us the opportunity:
* To learn how to love, to trust and be brave in new situations with new foods, places and People who matter in our lives no matter how tangled relationships might be.
*To step forward
* Go out into the unknown
*To embrace the moment and the People who love us ....

Though Thanksgiving day finds us filling our bellies with good things,
Our hearts are made Full from the memories of our loved ones who mean so much more than one person can say...
.......................................than i can adequately express in the here and now.

Although we cannot be together on this day  Onyx-Rose, i just want you to know how Thank-full i am for all that You've done, for all that You are and all You've shared with us.

With me.

Your unselfishness in sharing us with our families.... making sure we had time with loved ones no matter how difficult...or far away they were.

Thank You for filling our lives with the things that matter: Sustenance, Affection,  Celebration, Family....  but most of all Your Love.

Thank You for giving us YOU!

                                        with Love from me:
